Lesson 04 :- Singular and Plural ( Nouns )

What is singular ?
              A noun denotes one person, thing , animal or place is said to be in singular number.

                             Ex :-

                                      Computer

                                      Tutorial 

                                      Pupil 

                                       Elephant

What is plural ?
               A noun denotes more than one person , thing, animal or place is said to be in plural number.
                             Ex :-
                                      Computers

                                      Tutorials 

                                      Pupil

                                      Elephants
    

         01.  The  of most  plural  nouns are made by adding " s " to the  singular form.
Ex :- 

Singular	Plural
Boy	Boys
Window	Windows
comb	Combs
Duck	Ducks
Blackboard	Blackboards

      02.  The plural  nouns ending in " s, sh, ch, or x "  are made by adding "es" to the singular.

Ex :- 

Singular	Plural
Glass	Glasses
Church	Churches
Box	Boxes
Brush	Brushes

    
         03. The most of nouns ending in "o" also are made plural by adding "es" to the singular 
nouns.
Ex :-

Singular	Plural
Buffaloes	Buffaloes
Tomato	Tomatoes
Mango	Mangoes

         04.  Some  nouns ending in "o" but are made plural by adding "s" to the singular forms.

Ex :- 

Singular	Plural
Photo	Photos
Piano	Pianos

         05.  Nouns ending in  "y" after a consonant is convert into plural by changing "y" into "i" and adding "es" after that.

Ex :-

Singular	Plural
City	Cities
baby	Babies
Lady	Ladies

 

       06. Nouns are ending "y" after vowels are added only "s" .
Ex :- 

Singular	Plural
Day	Days
Toy	Toys
Boy	Boys

     07. Most of nouns are ending in "f" or "fe" from their plural by changing "f " or "fe" into "v" and adding "es" 

Ex :- 


 

Singular	Plural
Calf	Calves
Knife	Knives
Leaf	Leaves

 

        08. Some nouns ending in "f" are added only "s" 
Ex :- 

Singular	Plural
Roof	Roofs
Proof	Proofs

        09. Some  nouns forms their plural by changing the inside of vowel of the singular.
Ex :-  

Singular	Plural
Teeth	Tooth
Foot	Feet
Policeman	Policemen

        10. Some noun forms their plural by adding "en" to the singular.
Ex :- 

Singular	Plural
Child	Children
Ox	Oxen

         11. Some nouns have the same form for the singular as well as the plural .

Ex :- 

Singular	Plural
Deer	Deer
Sheep	Sheep

       

      12. Some nouns are used plural only .

Ex :- 

Scissors

Tongs

Trousers
